Hold My Mirror: A Process Group for Queer Young Adults

This is a process group centering the experience of young adults (around 22-28 years old) in the queer community. We aim to hold space for the here-and-now in a way that will help group members increase mindfulness. Group members will be able to build their relational skills and seek social support through this process space.

1. Who can attend this group?

This group is open to folks who are around 22-28 years old and identify within the queer community.

2. How much will each session cost?

The cost is $50 per session.

3. What is the format of this group?

This group will run for 8 weekly sessions on Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30 pm, starting on March 16th. The group will have 6-8 people total and use a process-oriented format. This means that all participants will be co-creators of the group environment, with the therapists providing clinical guidance only. Dynamics built between group members will be continuously reflected upon.

4. HOW WILL THE GROUP MEET?

The group will meet virtually on Zoom.

 

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS:

EMILY SCHULZ

EMILY SCHULZ

Emily is a Staff Therapist at Practical Audacity and her clinical focus is oriented around helping clients process their emotions and identify the needs that arise from that exploration. A big part of her work involves exploring sexual identity, gender, pleasure-oriented sex, relationship dynamics, and radical self-love with fluidity. Emily’s theoretical approach centers around an intersectional feminist lens with incorporation of queer theory, narrative therapy, emotion focused therapy, mindfulness, and IFS techniques.

As an intern, Galini has greatly expanded her clinical skills in her time at PA. Through somatic awareness and mindfulness-based techniques, Galini works with creatives, people going through life transitions, and folx who have experienced trauma and who feel ready to decipher and disentangle the ways it affects their life. She is invested in providing an accepting and compassionate space specifically for queer identifying folx to explore their intersectionalities.

 

Bonding Over Rice: Unpacking Narratives of Asian American Women

The Asian/Asian American community holds countless narratives, and this group aims to center our commonalities while also celebrating our diversity. We will explore various themes around expectations, stereotypes, and multicultural upbringings through a feminist, queer-inclusive lens.

This group is open to all women, as well as non-binary people who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women, who identify as Asian/Asian-American. In recognition of how broad this label is, we will not attempt to list every subgroup included. If *you* identify as Asian in any way, you are welcome here.

 

About the facilitator:

Laurel meng

Laurel Meng

Laurel Meng is a child of Chinese immigrants and was raised in a bilingual home. She speaks Mandarin Chinese and identifies as Chinese American. She is a trauma-informed, intersectional therapist who is committed to honoring multicultural narratives from an anti-oppressive, decolonizing framework. Laurel specializes in working with individuals and couples with LGBTQ+ and/or multicultural identities on concerns related to sex, gender, relationships, trauma, and attachment.

Sessions are each Thursday, $50 per session, with sliding scale option if needed.

3. What is the format of this group?

This group will run for 10 weekly sessions on Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 pm, starting on March 5th. The group will have 4-6 people total and use a process-oriented format. This means that all participants will be co-creators of the group environment, with the therapist providing clinical guidance only. Dynamics built between group members will be continuously reflected upon.

 

Leveling Up: Helping LGBTQ+ Folks Get the Jobs They Deserve

This 10 week group will start with the practical skills and knowledge you need to submit quality applications to the company of your dreams. You will learn what a resume and cover letter in 2020 should look like and how to be seen in a pile of 100 applicants! This workshop will explore what type of company aligns with your personal values and what makes an LGBTQ affirming employer. After developing your resume and cover letter, we will learn interview skills and how to sell ourselves as the best fit to an employer. Participants will discover what qualities companies are looking for in an employee, how to network with possible employers, and how to give an elevator pitch.

Carolyn Leach

Carolyn is a queer identified therapist who specializes in helping LGBTQ individuals navigate the career search process, from working on resumes and cover letters to securing a job offer. Carolyn worked with the TransWorks program in Chicago assisting transgender, non-binary, and gender nonconforming clients meet their employment goals. Her approach is solution focused and practical skills-based. Carolyn will help you feel unstuck wherever you are in your career path and job search!

Nope! Just bring yourself and we will get started making these things together.

4. Can I come if I already have a job? 

Absolutely. This workshop can be for folks looking to advance their existing careers, find their first job, or change career paths altogether
